In this assignment you will use the HWAS data set and data from Appendix B to do comparisons between 2 samples. You will need to compare proportions, answer a question about a sample of matched pair data, and compare two samples that are independent. The proportion test uses a z statistic, while the other tests use a t statistic. Remember to start by reviewing the data distributions, then do some descriptive analysis, and check for the conditions necessary for inference.

In Excel, you would use the **TTEST command or the Analysis Toolpak tools for t-tests **for 2 samples or matched pair. **For proportions, the ZTEST command canNOT be used**. The ZTEST command is for a test for a single sample mean with known sigma against a mean value. The **Analysis Toolpak tool for z-test is also NOT appropriate **because the formula used is for difference of 2 sample means with known sigma. The formula is NOT the same as is required for proportions.

In the Tools for this Course folder you will find simple instructions for z-tests for proportion. The additional resources in the DDXL add-in or StatCrunch have test functions for proportions.
