Project #106259 - Presentation

The scenario: (full discription in attachment file)

You are the Public Relations Manager for a private school in London. The school will be moving to new premises soon because the number of students has increased significantly over the past years, making the current premises inadequate. Places like the library and the sports hall have had to be used as classrooms. This has meant that extracurricular activities have been reduced.

The school has recently had a change of management, and the new management wants to make the school one of the premier institutions in London, both academically and for extracurricular activities. The move is essential to this plan as it will offer state-of-the art facilities similar to those offered by other top institutions.

However, these plans will have a large financial cost. The management plan to meet some of this cost through local partnerships, but they are also considering substantially raising school fees, even to the point of doubling them, although no final decision has been made yet. School fees have increased steadily over the past few years due to the rising cost of living, and this has placed a burden on many parents. There have been some complaints, but, on the whole, parents have accepted the increases so far. You know that many of them are really struggling to pay the fees. If the fees are doubled, many parents will have to withdraw their students from the school.

You have a meeting with the parents. The school management has asked you not to mention the possibility of doubling the fees, but has said you can intimate that there may be increases involved with the move. You feel that parents should be fully aware of the impending financial problems some of them are very likely to face.

Your problem is how do you make the parents realize the financial implications of the move without breaking your loyalty and duty of confidentiality to your employer?

You must include these points in your presentation:

·       The move to new premises is necessary because of the rising number of students and the poor condition of parts of the old premises

·       The move will mean much better facilities and more extracurricular activities

·       The school has been struggling over recent years to keep up with rising inflation and increased costs

·       Although there have been fee increases, they have been quite reasonable

·       The move is very likely to mean more fee increases

·       You are aware that parents are very worried about their children’s future at the school

At the end of your presentation your aim is that parents are excited about the move, but are fully aware that there are likely to be financial implications for them. They should feel positive about the situation.
