Note: The attached spreadsheet contains questions for you to solve using the statistical tools of correlation and regression. To get the correlation between 2 variables, the 2 variables are ordered pairs, with an explanatory (independent) variable and the response (dependent) variable, which correspond to the x- and y-axis respectively.

In Excel, the CORREL function will return correlation ranging from -1 to +1, where values close to -1 mean the 2 variables are strongly correlated in opposing direction, values close to +1 mean the 2 variables are strongly correlated in same direction, and values close to 0 mean the 2 variables have no correlation to each other. The textbook provides more information on interpretation of intermediate values.

**Command format is: =CORREL(array1,array2).**

To obtain a regression line and equation, you will need to make a scatterplot without connecting lines, and then add a trendline to the data series. The explanatory variable should be the x-axis, which will allow you to use the equation to make predictions. Be sure to check the box to display the equation. Data, graphs, calculations, and written analysis should complement each other in determining the overall solution to questions posed.
