In the comparison of evolution design method versus the waterfall method we have to look at when they came to be to understand why they are used. The waterfall method is the old man in this comparison, built back before the internet nad mobile applications(Johnson, 2015). The thought of tweeking a process in the middle of a project was unheard of, and so the waterfall method was good for the time in which it was first used. Nowadays, with the abilty to test certain aspects of the project before the entire thing is completed there needs to be a new method to manage projects; enter the evolutionary process. The evolutionary process is iterative, which allows for continuous testing and enables the team to alter the requirements and make changes to the product(Johnson, 2015). One reason for the change to new processes like the evolutionary design is that it is cheaper for a company to be able to make alterations to a product along the way than to complete the whole project and then realize that they have to do re-work, costing time and money.
#2 (tho tag)
So to start out here are the waterfall model phases:
Requirement Analysis and Definition ï‚—
System and Software Design ï‚—
Implementation and Unit Testing ï‚—
Integration and System Testing ï‚—
Operation and Maintenance
Here are the evolutionary model phases:
Initial Description ï‚—
Concurrent Activities –
Specification, Development and Validation ï‚—
Exposure to User – Initial Version, Intermediate Version and Final Version
I think more businesses are moving to the Evolutionary design process because it is tailored to the user more and is more adaptable. I think some businesses stick with the waterfall method because they either know exactly what they want or they don't want to change their processes.
