Project #111735 - Philosophy Paper 1

First, define retributive justice, procedural justice, and social justice and describe the difference between them.

Second, explain why living in a city run by a tyrant (a tyrant that Thrasymachus would approve of) is a city in which indiviual citizens are not really benefitted by living in that city, even if they obey the laws. If it isn't really good for the citizens to live in that city, could there really be social justice in that city? Explain why Socrates must answer "No".

Third, explain how Socrates think that there is social justice in his ideal city. Why does Socrates believe that each citizen would much better off by obeying the laws there?
