Project #12162 - Cross Cultural

I have discussion questions for cross culture class that I need answered in 48 hrs 200 word cound each question

You have been promoted to the general manager of a local hospital. Recently you have been receiving a significant number of patients who speak languages other than English. What do you do in your leadership position to address this trend

You are the project manager of an international virtual team. One of your group members is situated in the Middle East. You find you have made a major mistake when you try to contact his home during his time of fasting and prayer. You are also being held accountable for deadlines that fall during times of religious observance. What would you do?

Please find a cordial and willing friend, neighbor, or co-worker who is from a culture that is different from yours. As we will be discussing in this class, culture takes on many meanings, so you are not limited to race, gender, or nationality. You may also consider religion, political affiliation, union/non-union, age, etc. Spend some time asking that individual about his/her culture in ways that seem appropriate and meaningful. Then report back to us by introducing the individual (no need for names) and giving us 5-10 bullet points of your most interesting findings

Cultural scholars have found that around the world, people use the following adjectives to describe Americans: outgoing, friendly, informal, loud, boastful, hard-working, wasteful, confident that they have all the answers, lacking in class consciousness, disrespectful of authority, ignorant of other cultures, wealthy, generous, and always in a hurry. They also make the point that to the extent that Americans fit these stereotypes, they will have problems traveling abroad and/or interacting with individuals from other countries. Whether or not you are American, do you agree with these descriptions? How are cultural stereotypes a liability and/or an asset to people at work and/or personally?

Congratulations! You have been chosen to lead a new task force. (Each of you is free to name the task force topic based on an issue that you feel is pressing at your own workplace.) Your first job is to choose a team of ten. The only direction from the general manager is “make the team diverse.” What criteria would you use to ensure diversity of the team?

Please take some time to either cook a cross-cultural meal OR go out to a restaurant that stretches your cultural comfort zone (in other words, Chinese and Italian are not permitted :-) Unless your heritage is from one of these cultures, I recommend cuisine such as Moroccan, Indian, Haitian, Brazilian, and Ethiopian, but the possibilities are endless. Please report back to us about your experiences with the food, the reactions of your dining companion(s) and most important, what you may have learned about the culture
