1. Three friends independently use “Quick Pick" to randomly select six Lotto 6-49 numbers from the set {1, 2,..., 49} . What is the chance that they have at least one number in common on their tickets?

 

2. In a fair coin tossing experiment, how long on average until we see the pattern “HTTH"?

 

3. If a computer starts randomly printing letters from {A, B, C,..., Y, Z} at a rate of one

letter per second, how long on average until it prints out the string “STOP"?

 

4. Randomly choose a value from {0, 1, 2, ...,  9}. If you choose j > 0, you next randomly

choose a value from {0,..., j - 1}. Repeat this process until you have the value “0". What

is the probability that the previous value was “1"?
