Question that needs to be answer:

Going back to the previous discussion about sleep patterns and academic performance, choose one of the variables you or another student described and then identify how you decided (or decide now if you did not already do so) to measure the variable. What type(s) of distribution(s) would you generate with this variable when reporting and interpreting these data? Explain your reasoning.

Yes, there is a relationship between sleep and exam grades. There are numerous of variables that can be identified in the relationship: quality of sleep, hours of sleep, percentage grade on exam, letter grade on exam, and number of classmates. Sleep is a mixed of a qualitative and quantitative variable. The quality of sleep can be measure as a qualitative variable by describing how well to how poor they slept. This is measure in an ordinal scale because of the quality the classmate slept and is consider a discrete variable. One can also measure the number of hours the classmates sleep before an exam as a quantitative variable. The number of hours for sleep can be a continuous variable and a ratio because time is perceived. The percentage grade of an exam can be measured as a quantitative variable based on knowledge. The percentage of an exam would be a continuous variable because it can be measure as a whole or fractional unit, which would make it a ratio. Letter grades on an exam can be consider a qualitative measure based on aptitude levels. The letter grade of an exam would be a discrete variable because it is based on categories and it’s ordinal because each letter grade ranks higher than each other.
