Project #13327 - Political Science essay

Prepare a brief paper to discuss how the view of human nature is linked to the emphasis on need for authority in THE GRAND INQUISITOR. The paper should be no longer than 2-3 pages, add a cover page with name and question stated.

If you were to bring against the Grand Inquisitor, what might they be? How would you defend him against these charges? Consider the irony of the Grand inquisitor's situation: it is precisely because he believes the stranger is Christ and loves humankind, that he must burn Chirst alive to prevent him from adding even a single word to what has been said. What is it about the Grand Inquisitor's view of human nature that makes it imperative to take away freedom for the sake of happiness?

Imagning people to be weak and fallible, craving meaning and attachement yet possessed of an overweening pride (hubris) and rebellious spirit, does this contrary human creature not require “taming” for it's own good? Assume that every society is characterized by a kind of inherent balance between the forces making for order and those making for freedom. If so, what is the logical link between one's theory of human nature and one's choice to emphasize either the need for order or the need for freedom in a society?
