Project #14113 - Molecular Bio Lab Report DNA Fingerprinting

Hello!

I need help with two sections of this lab report.  We have not finished this experiment yet as it is being done over 2 weeks, so I do NOT yet know the results, and do not know what trends I should be getting and seeing!

I am looking for help on the INTRODUCTION WITH PEER REVIEW SOURCES & THE DISCUSSION WITH PEER REVIEW SOURCES!  Point form notes are fine as I will be submitting this report in my own words; therefore, formatting does not matter either.  I will be formatting this in APA format with tables and graphs, etc. I just want someone's help to find sources, help me figure out what to write for the intro and discussion and explain the concepts so I can learn.

The intro is not meant to be long.  Very short in fact.

 

-->One paragraph providing background information relevant to the lab. Include a clear statement of the principle(s) being examined. The reader should get a sense of why the experiments were performed.


The discussion is also short, but about the same length as the intro.  From lab report notes, we are to do the following:

 

--> Summarize the major findings from the lab. (Any ideas as to what I should expect to see would be great, experiment is being completed tomorrow)

--> Assess and evaluate the trends in the data that were stressed in the results section. (I WILL HAVE TO DO THIS PART ON MY OWN)

--> Compare your results with results from previous experiments performed by other researchers. (PLEASE JUST FIND RESULTS FROM OTHER EXPERIMENTS FOR ME TO COMPARE WITH; I DONT HAVE LAB DATA YET)

--> Additional experiments to extend your findings may also be proposed in the discussion section. (PLEASE FIND: 1) Another way to do this experiment as per the research literature)

AND ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS:

1) Are there any additional VNTR loci that could be used to identify individuals using PCR-based DNA fingerprinting? How many genotypes are possible for this locus?

2) If you did target a different locus, what would you have to change in the PCR reaction mix?

3) How would the distance that each DNA fragment travelled on your gel change if you were to make the gel using a higher percentage of agarose (for example 3%)? Explain.

My budget is $70.  This web sites transaction fees are pretty brutal, so I would like to keep it at this range.
