Poem 1: The Garden
Poem 2: The Description of Cookham

"The Garden" is a romantic poem in its expression, because it's about the poet's personal and emotional feelings towards life in nature and society. the theme is that the garden, which is the symbol of life in nature, is the perfect place for physical, mental and spiritual comfort and satisfaction, unlike the society where pleasure is false and temporary. Where as, the poem in "The Description of Cookham", the poet is praises the estate of her patroness, so she praises not only the nature their but the whole system, the nature order and mostly the social one. She praises the place where she learned to think of herself as a poet with great aspirations. Thus, unlike Marvell, Lanyer commends aristocracy.
