Assignment

Congratulations! You’ve all been hired by Oakley for a week as a consultant (they had some cash left over from dropping Lance Armstrong I guess). You are assigned to put together a presentation to educate consumers on the how to identify genuine Oakley websites and avoid ones which market knockoffs.  (You can write it as if it is posted to a website or back up a speaker on the topic) You should visit each site, note differences and take screen shots and use graphics or comments to identify signs of a fake site.

http://www.fiook.com/

This isn’t a game of “Where’s Waldo?”  They are different, I realize.  I’ll let you do some research on techniques but some clues you may want to incorporate:

1)    URL

2)    Misspellings or awkward English

3)    Too good to be true prices

4)    Date photographs

5)    Billing, order and contact us parts which send you to different sites, countries etc.

I’d REALLY like students to include a section on checking the registration of a website.  Good sites to hit on this include:

http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/  (has a simple google-like interface)

http://centralops.net/co/   (little more robust for the tech savvy among you)

This is a great skill to have in this day and age and really isn’t too difficult.  There are a myriad of sites out there to explain how to do it and how to understand the results.  A student desiring a high grade would include a slide or two on how to do it.

I think 15 to 20 slides would be a minimum length presentation.
