Project #16899 - soul music

Today’s Hip Hop is in many ways an outgrowth of the mid/late 60s soul music.  Although hip hop is often classified as R & B it has very little in common with the R & B that influenced early rock & roll.  Most of that “feel” was Anglicized and absorbed into classic rock.  Soul music is the true “blueprint” for most hip hop.

But since soul music had so many different variants, the question for you is, which one is the most dominant; Motown, Stax, Atlantic, or Funk?  Elements of all four can be found in much modern music, but is there one that stands out as being more “present” than the others?

Listen to the examples of soul music on internet.  Since the actual sound  (production values, etc.) has changed so much what will you look for in making this choice?  What do you hear that is similar to modern hip hop in one of these soul varieties that leads you to your conclusion?
