Project #16989 - literature

Here's a classic poem about sexual seduction, similar to Stevens' "Plot...", except that the roles are reversed and this was written about 300 years earlier.

Find and read Andrew Marvell's poem, "To His Coy Mistress." (This famous poem should be available in your MLL under the author, Marvell--in any event, this is easily downloaded from the internet.) Answer these questions: 1. What is the most arresting IMAGE in the poem? 2. What is its theme? 3. How is the poem structured?

Andrew Marvell is one of the great early British poets. He was more famous in his day for being a high-ranking politician during Cromwell's "Protectorate" during the middle 1600s. He was born around the time Shakespeare died. "To His Coy Mistrress" is his most famous poem, but not his most typical.
