Project #17226 - Problem set global climate change

1.     Discuss the net anthropogenic impacts on radiative forcing. Make sure to address greenhouse warming, stratospheric ozone and aerosol pollution in your discussion. A figure may be helpful for units (5 points).

2.     If seawater is only 96.5% water by weight, where does the rest come from? Why doesn’t the ocean continue to get saltier over time (5 points)?

3.     What is ocean acidification? What are the two major impacts of ocean acidification on calcifying organisms (5 points)?

4.     The ocean is becoming a less efficient sink for carbon dioxide. What are the two major reasons for this? What will be the consequence(s) of this (5 points)?

5.     Wetlands are susceptible to climate change. How might an inland wetland be affected differently than a coastal wetland? How can we “value” a wetland (5 points)?

6.     Sustainable forms of energy are not without their drawbacks. Choose one of the forms of alternative energy discussed in class and list the advantages as well as the disadvantages. Can we overcome the disadvantages? Is it still worth it to implement this form of energy over fossil fuel-driven energy (5 points)?
