Project #18618 - psychology report writing about aggression

Students will be required to design, test for basic reliability and validity, and critically evaluate a short one - two dimensional personality questionnaire and submit a 1500 words (maximum) report. The questionnaire must measure a potential aspect/trait/dimension of personality but should not be one of the more overused dimensions. The exact questionnaire items that they generate/use should not be part of existing questionnaires (though students can refer to these to get ideas etc.). Once students have selected a personality trait/s to measure they will be required check with their seminar leader that this is acceptable prior to proceeding.

The construction of the questionnaire will follow several stages, for example: review of theory, question construction and development; response scale selection; piloting of an initial questionnaire prior to item analysis. Performing a simple factor analysis, item analysis  (via the Cronbach’s Alpha test in SPSS) and critical evaluation.

Sections required for completed report.

1.            AIMS : Includes the theoretical foundation or conceptual basis

2.            QUESTIONNAIRE DESIGN : … to include item construction and analysis

3.            ANALYSIS of the questionnaire and your data

4.            CRITICAL EVALUATION (leading to conclusions) Critical reflection on how personality

              measures constructed

       Factor analytic approach

Personality theory issues eg critic of trait view

Sources of error – eg test and testing process

       Classical Test theory (CTT)

       Reliability and validity issues

       CTT versus IRT

I check with my seminar tutor and I have decided to choose and write on aggression trait.

  • Clear Construct Definition

      Identify & define sub-dimensions

        goal orientation example

  • Specification Chart

      Relative importance of sub-dimensions

Number & type of items per dimension

  • Identify Population of interest( which I used students in my university)
  • Review existing measures/interview sample
  • Select scaling method
  • Write Items
  • Pilot Test & Item Analysis
  • Item Revision

·         Your construct definition

  • Your items and how developed
  • Your “pilot” process and sample
  • Your data and analysis
  • Factor analysis
  • Cronbachs’ alpha
  • The final items you will keep and WHY
  • Evaluation
  • Table and data may be better in appendix

I was able to come up with this questionnaire to be given to 31 studentsand below is the questionnaire I came up with.
