example question

uppose that you're working with a group of anthropologists who are studying eight small villages along one side of a river as shown below. Suppose each village has 20 people, a total of 160 people in the eight villages. Assume that you find that all the 160 people in all eight villages know each other, but that some relations are positive and others are negative. To be precise, everyone is friends with the people in their own village, but enemies with everyone in every other village. According to the definition in Chapter 5, is the social network of these 160 people either balanced or weakly balanced? Provide an explanation for your answer.

Hint: for each type of relationship triangle, think whether this type of triangle occurs in the network.
