II. The following items contain run-on sentences.  Please correct each item so that grammatically correct sentences are represented in each item.

1. The bottom line is that many Baby Boomers exhibits “Millennial” learning styles.  Baby Boomer’s to a lesser extent and vice versa are demographically and technologically determined differences among generations.  While fun to discuss at a superficial level and as typical characteristics of large groups, are a poor foundation for decision-making about the learning needs of individual students.

2. These generalizations break down even further; when applied to the diverse and cross-age mixtures of people found in many college and university courses. Therefore can any useful conclusions be reached about trends in learning styles?

3. If one discards the hype about generational determinism so the learning preference ascribed to “Millennials” are increasingly true for many students across a wide range of ages, driven not only by the technologies they grew up with but, also with the tools and media they use every day. For example, by its nature, the Web rewards comparing multiple sources of information, individually incomplete and collectively inconsistent, this induces learning based on seeking, sieving, and synthesizing, rather than on assimilating a single “validated” source of knowledge as from books, television, or a professor lecturing.

4. Similarly, digital media and interfaces encourage multi-tasking, my teenage daughter “does her homework” by simultaneously reading her textbook, listening to her MP3 player, receiving and sending email, utilizing her web browser, and dialogue with six of her classmates via instant messaging!

III. The following list of items should form one paragraph.  Some items are full sentences.  Other items are sentence fragments.  Please form one paragraph from the list of items.  Please maintain accurate sentence structure so that no sentence fragments remain.

Each item is in order.  In other words, there is no reason to move the items around.

H.G. Wells described human history as a race between education and catastrophe.   If this description is accurate. Higher education has played a major role in safeguarding the world.   In the West, educators often trace their professional origins to Plato’s academy.   Where skeptics reasoned and reflected on goodness and knowledge.   Platonic education was personal.   Eschewing even the written word.   Socrates described writing as an “invention [that] will produce forgetfulness in the souls of those who have learned it.”  In early modern Europe, itinerant educators traveled to students.   In order to educate them where they were. However, the 11 th and 12 th centuries represent a turning point in the history of higher education.   With the founding of various institutions.   Universities in the West assumed the physical form, we recognize today.   And operated under papal or royal charters.   The Western form of universities and colleges is resilient.   Many institutions have served their societies.   Through natural disasters, times of war, revolution, economic turmoil, and political upheaval.   They have grown in number, size, and influence.   Bearing witness to Wells’s lament. Since the 12 th century. Higher education has been a place.   Students “go” to college.   While it took 1000 years to raise the tower of education, as described above. It has taken only 60 years to launch the digital computing and communications revolution.
