Buchner’s Woyzeck and Huelshoff’s the Jew’s beech are based on actual historical events. Both are based on actual historical events. How this book practices a kind of “documentary realism”, which aims at an accurate “mimetic” representation of the historically given social- politic or human reality? Can we read these texts as historical documents? Or, the possibility of an objective representation problematized by certain techniques in these texts? Play this type of question a crucial role? In other words: to what extent here approaches literary “probability” of historical “truth”?
