Assignment outline : You have been assigned to the radiography department as part of your work experience: Using information gathered at your placement, visits from radiographers to the college and your own research complete a report which addresses each of the following outcomes:

1. Explain the use of X-rays in imaging internal body structures.

2. Explain the use of one named radio opaque material for X-ray imaging of internal body structure.

3. Explain the principles and uses of the CAT scanner.

4. Describe the physical characteristics of sound waves.

5. Explain the principles of the production and detection of ultrasonic waves.

6. Explain the principle of ultrasonic echo sounding and how this is applied to the examination of

    internal body structures and systems.

7. Explain the principles of magnetic resonance

8. Describe the use of MRI to obtain information about internal body structures.

9. Describe the use of MRI as a post mortem tool and for assessing the outcome of surgery e.g. brain

    tumours

10. Compare and contrast the uses and relative advantages of X-rays, ultrasound, computerised

      tomography and MRI in examining internal structures.

11. Explain the part that radiation plays in the treatment of some cancers.
