"A Good man is hard to find" by Flannery O' Connor is the story.
1. Write 400-500 words (2-3 paragraphs) arguing for a particular interpretation that answers one of the following questions. Assume your audience has read the story; avoid summarizing the story for us. Focus on using evidence from the text to back up your answer to one of these questions.
a. Why is the Grandmother shot three times through the heart at the end? What could that number possibly mean?
b. Discuss the name "The Misfit." Why is he a misfit? What does he symbolize?
c. Why use the phrase "A Good Man is Hard to Find?" Red Sammy uses it as a cliche to discuss how everything in the world is getting 'worse.' But what else could it mean to the story? Is anyone in this story actually a good person?
2. After you finish your initial post, write a substantial response to at least two of your classmates. Do more than agree and praise; discuss these issues. Try to respond to one of the topic questions that you did not already write on.
