Project #2364 - Ethics and the Law

To assess your ability to:

·         describe the difference between ethical and legal issues

·         describe the impact these issues can have on individuals and organizations

·         apply the knowledge concerning ethical and legal issues to critique real-life situations

Overview

This case study assignment requires you to apply knowledge of ethical and legal issues to analyze a real-life situation. The Ethics and Law chapter will help you to complete this assignment.

Action Items

1.        An illegal alien from a South American country presents himself at a hospital requiring extensive surgery without any means of paying for the hospital treatment and care. You as the president of the hospital decide to pay to send the patient and his entire family back to his country of origin for the healthcare, rather than risk incurring a significant financial loss to the hospital.

·         What are the ethical and legal issues, if any, associated with this case? What are the obligations of the hospital?

·         If you were the president, would you handle this case any differently? If so, how?

·         You receive a call from a local newspaper reporter questioning your decision. How would you respond to the reporter?

2.        Format your answers in a two-page, double-spaced paper according to APA guidelines. The cover page and reference page are not to be included in the length of the paper.

3.        Submit the assignment as a Word document to turnitin.com and the class Drop Box by Saturday.
