Project #2611 - Create a report

AHS 450 Quality Management in Health Care

Project #4

Due: 3/3

Project Description:  A line graph, sometimes called a run chart, is used to show changes in performance measurement data over several time periods. It can also be used for displaying several groups of continuous measurement data simultaneously. In this project you’ll create a line graph of the measurement data, and interpret and report the results. Suggestions on how to find trends in performance data are found in your text.

Instructions

1.    Presume you are the quality director in a hospital. You’ve been asked to conduct a study for the nursing department. The purpose of the study is to determine how quickly nurses respond to patients’ call lights (a device used by patients to communicate to nurses that assistance is needed). You gather from the hospital’s automated Responder® 5 System which has the ability to record all call data, including call-light usage and response times in seconds. The mean response time (in seconds) for each shift of the first 15 days of one month are shown below:

2.    Using Excel™ or other graphic design software, create a line graph that shows the mean response time for each shift for each of the 15 days. Refer to the tips for creating graphic performance measurement reports found in chapter 3 of your text and the material on using MS Word to create graphs that is found in the resources on the course site.

3.    Create a formal report of the study results for the director of nursing using MS Word. Include the following information in the report:

         Purpose of the study

How data were gathered (including sample size)

         Study results:

-             the line graph you created in step #2 (insert the graph into your report)

-             a short narrative of the findings, including any significant performance patterns or trends that you may have been identified by analyzing the data

Remember, this report is for a senior leader in the organization so it should be professional looking.

4.    Upload your report to the assignment drop box. It must be in a word document otherwise it will not be graded. Don’t forget to put your name on the assignment.

Hints:

·         Be sure to label the x- and y-axes in your graph and give it a title

·         To help in your analysis of the data, see pages 56-57 in your text for information on how to interpret performance data plotted on line graphs.

This assignment will be graded according to compliance with instructions, accuracy, completeness, and spelling/grammar.
