Performer: Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles

Introduction

The above song by Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles presents a prototypical hap-violin guitar combination song that was common during the colonial Mexican era. This genre of song blends various musical instruments to create a soothing rhythm that represents the Mexican culture.

The song is created from a number of musical instruments, some of them include; Vihuela, Guitarrion and Guita de Golpe. However, the contemporary mariachi incorporates a guitar, violin, trumpet and harp (arpa de mariachi). The most dominant instruments are the Vihuela, trumpet and violin. The vihuela, a small guitar-like instrument, creates the rhythm while, the trumpet and violin create the melody.

The technique of playing the mariachi involves plucking the Guitarrion in octaves (two notes at time) to create the necessary rhythm for the song. The Vihuela is also plucked rapidly to create a six beat pattern that is in high tempo. The spreading of fingers on the strings of the guitar should be able to create a dominant, tonic and subdominant keys. Since the song involves alternations between the instruments and the vocals, a falsetto technique is used to help the musician reach high notes and then back to natural range. The singing style for the mariachi is straightforward, simple and high-pitched.

The lyrics of the song convey a message of love for Michoacán. The singer tries to emphasis how; he is deeply attached to his home state Michoacán. The singer uses imagery to show how his home state is beautiful. For instance, the singer describes how his home state is covered with flowery valleys. The tone of the song is passionate. The singer describes the great passion he has for his home state. From a lyrical perspective, the song reveals that the singer is happy. The singer is happy with his adventurous trip to the town of Apatzingan. In addition, the singer wants to toast Charanda to celebrate his love for Michoacán.
