Project #26173 - Law Discussion Board

Professional sports teams will generally not renegotiate a contract. However, owners want to keep their superstars happy and may renegotiate their contracts during the life of an existing contract. For example, Kellen Winslow, Jr., a highly regarded football player for the Cleveland Browns, forfeited a large amount of money when he was injured in a motorcycle accident. He violated a "dangerous activities" clause in his six-year $40 million contract, and was out for the season with a knee injury. After his recovery, what could the owner of the Browns have done to give Winslow a chance to recoup his lost earnings?
