Problem 1:  A clothes manufacturer wants to know whether customers prefer any specific color over other colors in shirts. A random sample of 150 shirts is selected and the data are shown here. At α = 0.10, is there a color preference for the shirts?

(b) State the Hypotheses and identify the claim.

(c) Compute the Chi-square test statistic.

(d)  Find the critical value or the p-value.

(f)  Summarize the results and write a conclusion.

Problem 2:  Many people have the impression that foreign made automobiles tend to be more reliable than US made cars. A survey asked consumers about problems they have had with their new cars in the first 12 months of ownership. The results are shown in the table:

Is the number of problems independent of the car’s origin? Use α = 0.05.
