2. Use molecular orbital theory to determine the relative bond lengths and energies of a CO molecue and CO+ ion. 

3. Describe the bonding and shape of propyne (methyl acetylene) molecule, CH3C=CH (3 is under) How many σ and π bonds are there? How many valence electrons?

4. Use the π energy-level diagram to describe the bonding in a carbonate ion, CO(2- above, 3 below). Calculate the total bond order. Can you rationalize your results with the Lewis formulas for CO(2- above, 3 below).

5. OH groups - Use your knowledge of bonding and Lewis formulas to explain why sodium hydrozide forms highly basic solutions, solutions of methanol are essentially neutral, and acetic acid readily loses a hydrogen ion to form acidic solutions.

6. Write balanced chem equation for the following reactions:

a. The combustion of methan gas CH4(under)(g), in oxygen yields carbon dioxide and water.

b. When nickel metal is placed into blue solution containing coper(II) nitrate, the solution slowly changes to green and a metallic precipitate forms.

c. When calcium metal is placed in water, it produces bubbles until the metal is dissolved, leaving a highly alkaline (basic) solution.
