Project #28006 - Gender Issues/Womens Studies

Students will write and turn in an 8-10 page (double-spaced, 12 point font) paper that records and discusses their own personal and observed behaviors or events that show evidence of gender discrimination

 

Areas to address include the following:

1.  Individual/Personal:  partner, lover, spouse, etc. (micro level)

2.  Family:  parents, siblings, children, extended family (micro level)

3.  School:  classmates, teachers, peers (meso level)

4.  Work:  colleagues, superiors, subordinates (meso level)

5.  Social:  friends, neighbors, community (meso level)

6.  Media:  TV shows, movies, commercials, music, art, etc. (macro level)

Paper Structure:

Paper Outline:

Title

Introduction (1-2 pages):  20 points

Initial thoughts on gender issues, biographical background, information about your upbringing, consider questions like: 
Did you grow up in a matriarchal or patriarchal home? How did you experience gender socialization? 

Body (5-6 pages):  60 points

Findings in the 6 areas listed above: individual, family, school, work, social, & media (see above for more explanation)
Include specific examples and details

Conclusion (1-2 pages): 20 points

Summary
How have your ideas about the gender changed/ remained the same throughout the class?
