Imagine that you are a human resources manager for a large corporation. In reviewing the minutes from the annual meeting, you notice that four of the company’s top executives intend to retire in the next six years. Your task is to create succession plan. Address the following.
- Define a succession plan. In which kinds of situations are succession plans needed? In which kinds of situations are succession plans not appropriate? Which kinds of candidates are sought after in a succession plan? Which kind of candidates are not eligible for jobs in a succession plan?
- Decide whether you are going to implement a formal succession plan or an informal succession plan. Then identify the first step in the plan you are designing for your company. Describe how you would carry out this step to get the best results for your company.
- Identify the second step in a succession plan. Describe how you will “create” candidates for your positions.
