What were the returns during the period you managed the portfolio?
What returns do you expect the portfolio would produce over 1 year? 5 years? And why?

2. Explain how the investments that were selected are consistent with the investment policy
statement? What changes would you recommend for the investment policy statement?

3. What is the beta of the stock portfolio and is it consistent with the risk objectives in the investment policy statement?

Writing Requirements

A formal written report (and spreadsheet, as indicated) is required for each of the three installments of this graded exercise.

  1. The suggested length of the final project is 8 to 10 double-spaced, typewritten pages, plus exhibits and related documentation (e.g., reports, tables, etc.).
  2. Your paper must begin with an introduction that reviews the assignment, or purpose, of the paper and includes an overview of the contents of the report.
  3. The body of your report must address and include the specific elements of the assignment (outlined and explained above).
  4. Your paper should conclude with a summary or conclusion that provides an overview of the principal observations, conclusions, and recommendations presented in your paper; do not introduce any new material in the summary or conclusion.
  5. In the text of your written report, you should (1) refer to essential research data, financial calculations, and other supporting documentation in summary form, and (2) include those data, calculations, and documentation as detailed supporting information in the attachments. Although there is no set limit on the size or number of attachments and exhibits, it is recommended that you attach only essential supporting information and data.
  6. All major sources of information and data should be referenced. You should use in‑text references and a bibliography to identify all supporting documents you used in the preparation of your written report.

The written report for the portfolio findings will be evaluated based on the following factors:

  • 25 percent—portfolio construction and analysis explanation
  • 25 percent—portfolio risk-and-return analysis
  • 20 percent—organization of paper and critical thinking
  • 20 percent—presentation of paper and writing quality
  • 10 percent—research approach and use of appropriate professional sources of information and data

To receive credit, the written research project report must be submitted by the due date; late papers are not accepted.

Evaluation Rubric

An evaluation rubric is available for the research project. Because it outlines the specific requirements and elements of the project, the rubric is a useful guideline for the content, preparation, and completion of the project.

Your instructor will use the rubric to evaluate and grade your final project.

Project-Related Questions

All questions related to this assignment should be referred to the instructor through the WebTycho classroom discussion or the Project Conference so all students can benefit from the questions and answers.

As these are new and challenging assignments for many of you, your questions may well serve to better define what I really want and expect, which can lead to better reports!
