Project #31273 - global history

You are required to write an essay of 1,500-2,000 wordsfrom one of the following threequestions:

Question 1: Was nineteenth-century globalisation merely an extension of European imperial and industrial expansion, or did it reflect unique developments within other societies globally?

Question 2: Can we understand the period from 1500 to the present as a coherent historical era, or was it divided into fundamental periods that were more different than similar?

Question 3: What were the key global movements that led to decolonisation after World War Two?

For this assessment you are required to use at least ten primary documents from the textbook to support your argument, and limit direct quotations to 25 words for each source. (Note: You cannot use the same primary document that you used in your short essay.) Use a clear argument to organise the essay. Your essays will be judged on their argument, organisation, creativity, use of evidence, engagement with readings and your use of English (see grading rubric on page 11 and 12).

To achieve ahigh distinction you will be required to reference at least five high-quality secondary sources found outside the textbookprovided in the links on Selected Readings on page 13 or by approval of the tutor or coordinator.Referencing additional sources from outside the book by no means guarantees a higher grade, but is the minimum requirement to achieve a higher grade.

1.     Making thematic connections between secondary readings and primary documents: We want to read your response to the selected document readings and the issues they raise. You should demonstrate the application of critical thinking to the ideas you encounter and strive to make thematic connections between documents you have read. Compare and contrast key information, as well as the perspectives adopted by the respective authors. This does not necessarily mean that you should disagree with them (you may or may not as you see fit). It means you should assess them, looking for their strengths and weaknesses.

Referencing: You must comply with scholarly conventions, including using the Chicago reference style. Proper acknowledgement of the sources you utilise in a written assessment task is an essential requirement in academic writing
