Part 1:

 

The onset of puberty marks a significant change in a person's life biologically, psychologically, and socially. There are some myths regarding puberty that may skew its realities. Describe some of the myths and realities of puberty.

 

Explain the psychological and social issues a person may face during the transition to puberty.

Define adolescence from the psychological, and social or emotional perspectives.

Explain some of the emotional changes that may occur at the onset of adolescence and as the individual mature through adolescence.

Justify your answers with appropriate reasoning and research from your text and course readings. Comment on the postings of at least two peers, and provide an analysis of each peer’s postings while also suggesting specific additions or clarifications for improving the discussion question response.

 

Part 2:

 

The transition into adulthood may differ depending on cultural traditions and rites of passage from adolescence to adulthood. The transition into adulthood is also a time for relationships and romance from a normative perspective.

 

Describe at least two unique rites of passage to adulthood on the basis of ethnic or cultural variations.

Explain the concepts of pluralism and assimilation and describe how they affect the rites of passage of individuals.

Describe different attachment styles.

Explain the attachment style you feel would be most effective in forming lasting relationships.

Describe the different types of attraction.

Explain the type of attraction you feel would be most effective in establishing lasting relationships.

 

Part 3:

 

A person's lifestyle has a significant influence on the person's health and development as he or she moves into middle age (and old age). Stability and change are also common factors in an adult's life.

 

Describe how middle adulthood provides stability in a person's life. Explain some of the factors that would lead to stability in a person's life as he or she moves through middle age.

Describe some of the more common lifestyle issues that have a negative impact on a person's continued development. Explain how a person may be able to reverse some of the lifestyle influences.

On the basis of your readings, describe what is meant by a midlife crisis. Explain why a midlife crisis may or may not be critical.

Part 4:

 

Erikson, Helson, and Levinson provide different perspectives on middle age in adulthood.

 

Describe each of these theories as it relates to middle adulthood.

On the basis of your readings, compare and contrast these theories. Which one gives a better explanation of middle adulthood?

 

Part 6:

 

The US population is aging, and the life expectancy of the average adult is increasing. According to the US Census Bureau (2009), by 2050, 20 percent of the total population will consist of people who are sixty-five years or older. There are several issues that challenge older adults from myths regarding aging to the significant life changes such as retirement.

 

Explain some of the things that may change because of the increasing life expectancy and a growing older adult population.

Describe some of the myths that deal with both physical and psychological aging. Explain some of the realities that dispel these myths and identify how older adults are engaged in their lives both in leisure and in work activities.

Explain some of the reasons individuals who are sixty-five years or older are still part of the workforce, both from a psychological and a social perspective? Identify ways in which older adults are looking for other career options than simply retiring.

Justify your answers with appropriate reasoning and research from your text and course readings. Part 7:

 

Grieving occurs due to the loss of a loved one or someone they had a close relationship with. The process of grieving differs depending on cultural (social) norms. One way in which end-of-life has been described is through Kübler-Ross five stages of dying.

 

Describe the dual-processing model regarding grief. Explain how this model may explain how some variations may differ across cultures.

Describe the Kübler-Ross five stages of dying. Explain the differences if any in how the different age groups may deal with end-of-life such as adolescence and older adults.
