Project #3267 - Statistics

The attached article presents the result from an analysis looking at the relationship between community health status indicators and measures of local public health system performance and community demographic indicators. The authors use validated national measures of local public health system performance - the Local Public Health System Performance Assessment that was developed by various national public health entities including NACCHO and CDC and data from the CDCs Community Health Status Indictors (CHSI) project to examine both correlations between community outcomes and system performance scores and demographic variables. They further examine multiple regression models for each of these health outcomes.

Things to consider in reviewing this article:

What do the correlations tell us? What do they tell us about the relationship between the variables? Which of these are surprising or 'unexpected'? How do you interpret these?

What were the assumptions that were used in these regression models. How did they construct the regression models. Given that, evaluate their methods. Statistically what might you have done differently, if anything?

Reviewing the analysis, what do these models tell us about the relationship between performance indicators and health status outcomes? What other information would be helpful in interpreting these models.

NOTE: These are general thought questions.
