Project #34403 - diversity management

  1. Find a thorough description of a diversity management program or initiative of a major U.S. organization. The easiest way to do this is to go to the website of a large U.S. firm and search for “diversity,” “inclusion” or “diversity management.”  See The DiversityInc.’s 2011 List of 50 the Top Companies for Diversity for suggestions about which firms websites might be good to review for this assignment. Some examples are Sodexo, AT&T, Ford Motor Company, Procter & Gamble, Microsoft, and Xerox.  (You may need to search the web pages related to diversity initiatives of more than one organization before deciding which to use for this part of the assessment.  View this as a learning experience.)  In one or two paragraphs, evaluate, to the extent possible from evidence on the organization’s web page, the quality of the organization’s diversity initiative based on what you have learned from required readings for this lesson.  
  2. Give an example of an organizational action that contradicts its stated commitment to diversity that was not provided in the assigned readings.

    3. Even though “employees whose demographic characteristics mirror [those] of their customers” may be better able to understand customers’ perspectives, why would insisting on a direct match between employee and customer characteristics be a mistake?
