Project #3503 - Literature & American History Discussion Question

PLEASE NO PLAGIARIZED WORK!!!

250 word min. response needed

I would like to open a thread for discussions regarding literature and American history. In this thread, we can discuss books from America's past. Class members should feel free to express anything about literature and American history that interests them in this space. Rather than jump into a discussion about contemporary books, however, I would prefer if we would stick to novels from the time period we are currently investigating. We should concentrate on books published between 1865-1945.

Please allow me to pose a question in an attempt to get things started:

To what extent do novels represent documents with which to study the past? In other words, to what extent do novels represent windows by which we can see into yesteryear? F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby was published in 1925. Does reading that book tell us a great deal about 1925? Why or why not?

Tell us about some of your favorite books from America's past! Why were they important? How can we understand them?
