Discuss the causes of the Great Depression. What events occurred that initiated this period? Please point to specific economic factors and weaknesses that led to economic contraction.

Roosevelt’s goal to attack the Depression consisted of the 3 R’s: relief, recovery and reform. What types of legislation was passed by Congress to alleviate the misery caused by the Great Depression? Did the legislation passed during FDR's Presidency create relief, recovery and reform?  What were some criticisms leveled against Roosevelt’s New Deal?

What was America’s attitude toward Europe at the outbreak of the Second World War? What was American’s relationship with Japan at the outbreak of the Second World War? What factors caused America to enter the war? Please point to specific events.

President Johnson believed that his Great Society program would have a tremendous impact on American society.  Do you believe this was the case?  Please point to specific legislation that was passed.  What did Johnson hope to accomplish?
