1.  There have recently been reports in the media of a large recall of fruit (plums, peaches and nectarines) because of contamination with Listeria. How would you conduct surveillance to identify outbreaks related to the recalled product? At what point would you begin an outbreak investigation?

 

 

 

2.  What are the steps of an outbreak investigation? Which ones do you think are most important?

3.  Over the years, the Southern Nevada Health District has investigated several Legionnaires' Disease outbreaks at strip resorts. If you were part of the team investigating such an outbreak, what questions would you want to answer? What would you ask the hotel? How would you go about the investigation?

 

 

 

4.  Say that you are investigating a foodborne outbreak at a local restaurant. Your investigation has not been conclusive, but you are starting to get questions from the media about your findings. Is it appropriate to discuss the problems at the facility given that you do not have a source? How would you handle the questions from the media? If people start going to the media to say they were infected at the restaurant, what would you say to the media when they ask about these specific cases?
