Project #37778 - 11th Grade English Homework Assignment

Summer Assignment for AP English Language and Composition

Juniors 2014-2015

Advanced Placement English Language and Composition is a course designed to replace your first English course in college.  The goal of that first college English course is to help students understand critical reading skills, primarily in works of nonfiction, and how to write under the demands of a variety of different college courses.  The primary goal of AP English Language then is, of course, the same goal as that of the first college English course.  Understanding of purpose and audience is vitally important to reading critically and writing well.  Over the summer, we recommend that you will complete three assignments to help you transition from English II Honors into AP English Language.  For Part 1, you will complete the readings and questions from the textbook, The Language of Composition.  Part 2 involves reading one novel of your choosing from the listed works below (You may purchase a copy of the novel-look for used copies, as they are less expensive-or check one out from your local public library). Last, in Part 3, you will complete the poetry journal project.

(1)     LINK to TEXTBOOK READINGS and QUESTIONS

Please ignore the instructions that tell you your answers must be typed and turned in on day one.  I could not figure out how to cover those up on the original document.  The answers on this assignment, Part 1, may be hand-written.  In addition, follow the instructions from above:  we recommend that you are prepared with PART 1: Textbook readings and questions by 8/25/14.    Students are strongly encouraged to complete this work over the summer.
