Project #38495 - Reading autobiography

For this assignment, you will describe your history as a reader.  This does not (and should not be) all-encompassing.  Like all autobiographies, you will relate those experiences that have been most pivotal or resonant to you as a reader.  This can include being read to as a small child; learning to read independently; discovering books or authors that were important to you; experiencing periods of being a reluctant reader or a non-reader; etc.  The important thing is that this isn’t just a list of your favorite books.  Instead, you should make some effort to explain why these experiences/ authors/texts were important to you, what bearing they have on your present experience as a reader, and what your history might have to say about the experiences of today’s students.

Rationale/Relationship to Teaching

As we begin to explore the genre of Young Adult Literature, it is helpful to understand what our own experiences tell us about the experiences of others.  Research tells us that there are trends and patterns in student readers, and by recognizing the trends and patterns in our own reading, we will be better equipped to understand why and how Young Adult Literature can be crucial in encouraging students to become avid readers.
