Project #39078 - WHAT IS ART?

What is art? It is a transformation of the commonplace, one writer tells us. It opens windows in the actual, says another, permitting us to see alternative realities. Art is serious and beneficial, remarks another, a game played against chaos and death. Yes, comments still another, but art breaks open a dimension inaccessible to other experience. The language and images we find in art “ make perceptible, visible, and audible that which no longer, or not yet, perceived, said, and heard in everyday life” (Marcuse, 1978)
