Project #42680 - Mythology questions and response

There is three different reading section for my assignment so its broken up into three sections. Each response does not need to be in APA paper form, just questions/summaries answered, I have attached the reading material in PDF format.

Chapter 2 assignment

Part 1:

Leonard & McClure divide chapter 2 into two distinct sections.  The first section looks at the theoretical approach to creation stories.  Basically, what is the purpose of creation stories and what are the general categorizations that we can use when studying them.  Similar to Leonard & McClure's definition of myth from Chapter 1, these categories are only a starting point and they aren't mutually exclusive.  In other words, some stories may have multiple elements in them such as the Genesis myth.

Let's look at these categories.  Pick one type of creation myth (e.g. Secretion, Sacrifice, Ex Nihilo, etc).  Why is this type of creation myth important?  What might it tell us about cultures that used this kind of story?  Then, identify a myth from the second part of this chapter where this type of creation is present. Does your chosen myth incorporate other types of creation, or does it focus solely on one kind?

Part 2:

The creation process in myths is highly descriptive, and sometimes bizarre.  Many of the myths from this week's readings are very different, but they share common threads.  Discuss several of these myths, and identify common themes that are present in these stories. Please choose 3 myths based on the Chapter 2 reading.

o    Many people are familiar with the names from Norse myths, if for no other reason than the popularity of the recent Marvel movies.  However, many people are unaware of the actual myths concerning Odin, Thor, and Loki.  After reading through the creation myth, what strikes you as different, at least as compared to the other creation stories.  How is it told and how does it end?  In what ways is it similar to other creation stories?
