Chi-Square

Chi-square is used to look at the statistical significance of an association between two categorical variables. Ex. Gender difference on selection of a store visited. Female are more likely to select a particular store than males.

ANOVA (Analysis of Variance)

ANOVA is used to see an association between a continuous outcome variable and a categorical determining variable. ANOVA, is a method of testing the null hypothesis that several group means are equal in the population, by comparing the sample variance estimated from the group means to that estimated within the groups. Ex. Gender and response to how likely an employee feels they are to shop in a store. (selection would be a 1-5). Is there an association between gender and the perception of selecting a store. Let’s say that there is an association between most likely to visit a store and female.

Linear Regression

Linear Regression predicts the impact of independent variables on the dependent variable; one or more independent variables, that best predict the value of the dependent variable. For example, you can try to predict a salesperson's total yearly sales (the dependent variable) from independent variables such as age, education, and years of experience. Ex. If job engagement is a dependent variable, and work hours, benefits, work relationships are independent variables; linear regression answers how much these independent variables predict job engagement.

Find three articles that use each of the above listed statistical tests. What were their outcomes?
