Communication privacy management theory Literature Review/ Synthesis or Scholarship Purpose: To establish a theoretical framework for a specific theory located in the textbook. During a literature it is imperative to define key terms, definitions, and terminologies, while summarizing, classifying, and comparing prior studies about the theory. When reviewing the theory, it is important to place it into an appropriate context. Context is typically found through researching. Guidelines: The literature reviews length is six to eight pages; doubled spaced, with correct headings. It must be formatted in APA, must include a proper cover, and works cited page. The works cited page must include seven to ten sources, but six sources must come communication journals. Further, the literature review should grammar and spelling mistake free, while not being plagiarized. In order to ensure ethical writing, all reviews will be submitted to turnit.com via blackboard. Steps: 1. Topic formation: a. Look at the theories presented in the book or listed in the syllabus b. Pick a theory that grabs your attention is some way. c. Know primary components of theory. d. Complete topic approval form but must include: i. Introduction (1-2 paragraphs) ii. Purpose of the literature review (1-2 paragraphs) iii. Key definitions of the theory (as needed) iv. Any limitations (1 paragraph) v. Research perspective or the methodology (1-2 paragraphs) 2. Literature search: a. Begin research into the theory and see what type of journal articles have been written about the theory. This can give you an idea of a context for the theory. b. Find themes within articles and group them, whether chronological, thematic, or issue based. c. While conducting research, begin annotative bibliography. Provide a proper source, plus a brief summary of the article and how it relates or will be utilized in the literature review. d. Complete annotative bibliography . Annotative bibliographies not turned in to turnitin.com will not be graded. must include: i. Introduction (1-2 paragraphs) ii. A brief summary and analysis of application for literature review for seven to ten sources (each annotation should be between 1-3paragraphs). iii. Sources must categorize and alphabetized within each category. iv. Four sources must come from communication journals and all sources must be formatted in APA. 3. Revising: a. Evaluate the sources presented in the annotative bibliography and determine the relevancy. Do sources need to be switch out or around? b. Pick the strongest sources for the paper. c. Construct a rough draft via turnitin.com . Rough drafts not turned into turnitin.com will be not graded. 4. Synthesizing scholarship: a. Make changes and corrections from rough draft. b. Fulfill the purpose of the assignment, as stated above. c. Final drafts of the literature must be uploading to turnitin.com d. Final drafts must include: i. Six to eight pages of content, formatted correctly in APA. ii. Proper title page. iii. Introduction (1-2 pages): 1. Provide a concrete thesis and distinct preview to literature review. 2. Define or identify the general topic, issue, or area of concern. 3. Provide an appropriate context for reviewing the literature. 4. Point out overall trends in what has been published about the topic; or conflicts in theory, methodology, evidence, and conclusions; or gaps in research and scholarship; or a single problem or new perspective of immediate interest. iv. Purpose & Methodology (1 page): 1. Establish the reason (point of view) for reviewing the literature. 2. Explain the criteria to be used in analyzing and comparing literature and the organization of the review (sequence); and, when necessary, state why certain literature is or is not included (scope). v. Synthesis of Scholarship & Analysis: (3-5 pages): 1. Group research studies and other types of literature (reviews, theoretical articles, case studies, etc.) according to common denominators such as qualitative versus quantitative approaches, conclusions of authors, specific purpose or objective, chronology, etc. 2. Summarize individual studies or articles with as much or as little detail as each merit, according to its comparative importance in the literature, remembering that space (length) denotes significance. 3. Provide the reader with strong "umbrella" sentences at beginnings of paragraphs, "signposts" throughout, and brief "so what" summary sentences at intermediate points, in the review to aid in understanding comparisons and analyses. 4. Use concrete quotes, but do not rely solely on the words of others. Make your voice can be heard. 5. Use correct in-text citations and anything summarized also needs an in-text citation. All citations should be in APA. vi. Conclusion (1 page): 1. Summarize major contributions of significant studies and articles to the body of knowledge under review, maintaining the focus established in the introduction. 2. Evaluate the current "state of the issue/theory" for the body of knowledge reviewed. 3. Point out major methodological flaws or gaps in research, inconsistencies in theory and findings, and areas or issues pertinent to future study. 4. Conclude by providing some insight into the relationship between the central topic of the literature review and a larger area of study such as a discipline, a scientific endeavor, or a profession. vii. Works cited page 1. Alphabetize all references utilized in the literature review. 2.
