Project #44451 - Disneys Frozen

So basically all you have to do is explain how the movie Frozen relates to the central theme of Sexuality. The movie and central theme are underlined. You must use the articles listed under Frozen to expalain how people may draw conclusions that Frozen is a sexual movie. Listed below is the actual assignment.

Explanatory Synthesis

Over the course of this unit, you will be putting your skills of summarization, paraphrase, quotation, and critique to task in a more prolonged analytic discussion involving more than one text as the subject. The purpose of this paper is to explain the relationships between sets of texts/ideas and to make those relationships explicit. The aim here is to inform, not persuade.

According to Behrens and Rosen, “a synthesis is a written discussion that draws on two or more sources” (94). The Oxford English Dictionary defines a synthesis as “the putting together of parts or elements so as to make up a complex whole.” You will be explaining how three or four texts can be put into conversation with one another. How do they compare and contrast? Since this is an explanatory thesis you will spend most of your time explaining how the texts interact.

Assignment:  You will write an at least 1750- word explanatory synthesis. There are four different topic options for your paper:

Topic Three:  Frozen and Sexuality

            Texts:

Ø  Frozen

Ø  At least two but no more than four of the following:

o   “Disney’s ‘Frozen’ and the Gat Agenda” by Kierran Patterson

o   “Swanson:  Disney’s ‘Frozen’ Is A Satanic Push To Turn Kids Gay” by Brian Tashman

o   “The ‘Hidden Gay Agenda’ Movie Test” by Domenick Scudera

o   “A Big ‘Frozen’ Ballad Speaks to Tweens” by NPR Staff

o   “Pop Culture Happy Hour:  ‘Frozen’ Princesses and Character Deaths” by Linda Holmes – AUDIO

o   “Songwriters Behind ‘Frozen’ Let Go Of The Princess Mythology” – AUDIO

o   “How ‘Frozen’ Took Over the World” by Maria Konnikova

o   An Approved Source of Your Choosing

Guidelines:

Ø  When you are considering your film option, remember everything that we learned in the advertisement unit. A shot in a film is composed in a similar fashion to a still advertisement image. What do you notice about your film in terms of these principles?

Ø  Your paper should answer a question. That question may be as simple as “How are these texts connected?” or as complicated as “Is the Joker an Allegorical Figure for Islamic Terrorists?” The choice is up to you. Keep in mind, though, that you are explaining, not arguing.
