Discussion Question 1

Briefly discuss the history of managed care and explore the future of managed care in the United States. What components will likely be part of a managed care system in the United States in 2020?

Discussion Question 2

Explore healthcare disparities in the United States and determine the groups of people most likely to experience discrimination in healthcare services. Recommend at least one policy that could eliminate healthcare disparities in the United States.

Discussion Question 3

The insurance industry in the United States plays a significant role in healthcare. Examine whether the proliferation of insurance companies has provided benefits to society or added a layer of costly administrative overhead to the healthcare system.

Discussion Question 4

Primary care providers deliver basic medical care for Americans. Yet, Bodenheimer and Grumbach (2009) report that "the proportion of internal medicine residents entering primary care medicine rather than subspecialty or hospital careers plummeted from 54% in 1998 to 20% in 2005" (p. 201). Research the current status of primary care in the United States and develop policy initiatives and provider incentives to increase the number of residents entering primary care instead of a subspecialty or a hospital career.

NOTE: Along with this assignment I will need at least two 2-3 short sentences to 2-4 other responses from my peers. This will total anywhere from 4-12 sentences. However, no one has responded yet, I will have these responses shortly.
