Like Superman with kryptonite, every being is limited by something. For every limitation, however, there is a strength that helps living things prevail. Consider turtles for example. Their limitation is that they are slow and are the prey of many. Though they may not be able to run away from predators like a gazelle or fly away like a bird, their hard outer shells protect them from faster prey. For turtles, it is a natural-born instinct to overcome their weakness by hiding inside their shell.

Though HR professionals are not fictional superheroes or animals, they too must use their instincts and their self-understanding to find their Achilles’ heel. In fact, for professionals to be truly effective, they must first figure out what their weaknesses are. Assessing oneself for weaknesses takes honest introspection. You must acknowledge that it is impossible to perfect every role and responsibility that falls under your domain. Knowing where your gaps in information and process knowledge lie can help you become a stronger business partner.

For your Assignment, you first review the article presented in this week’s Learning Resources, titled “HR Success Increasingly Tied to Showing of Strong Business Acumen,” to analyze capability gaps that HR professionals commonly have. In addition, you assess the personal limitations that you bring with you as you enter the HR field. 

To complete this Assignment, respond to the following in a 3- to 4-page APA Style paper:

·         Analyze HR’s capability gaps.

o    Describe one reason why organizations might view HR as having an insufficient knowledge base in each of the following three capability gaps: business analytics, business planning, and client relationship management.

o    Use reasoning and research to justify each of your answers.

o    Identify at least one strategy that HR could employ to improve its effectiveness in each of the following areas: business analytics, business planning, and client relationship management. Note: A total of six strategies should be cited.

·         Assess limitations of HR professionals.

o    How can HR professionals’ background experiences, education, and/or traditional job priorities hinder them when attempting to become a strategic force in mergers and acquisitions?

o    Identify two skill-based limitations that you may personally experience when stepping into the strategic engagement roles as outlined in Chapter 3 of the Bellingham course text. For example, which skills do you feel you need to improve upon before integrating yourself into the process of an M&A? In what areas might your knowledge base be lacking?

o    Propose two strategies that you may use to overcome these skill-based limitations. Justify your reasoning using real-life examples based in business periodicals, scholarly research, or professional experience.
