1. In each of the following, determine whether the experiment is binomial experiment. If so,

identify a trial, outcomes of the trial (e.g. success and failure) and probability of success p. If not

explain why not. [

 

hint: Are the trials independent? Are the number of outcomes on each trial 2?

Is P, the probability of success, constant from trial to trial?

 

 

a. Two balls are selected without replacement from a bag containing three red and four green

balls. The interest is the number of red balls drawn.

b. Two balls are selected with replacement from a bag containing three red and four green

balls. The interest is the number of red balls drawn.

c. A balanced die is rolled once. The interest is number rolled.

d. A couple plans to have three children. The interest is the number of girls born to this couple.

e. A computer randomly generates 10 integers between 1 and 8. We are interested in the

number of even integers generated.
