Project #45894 - European social econ history

This week you
are
learning about Italian fascism
.
The
connection to futurist art
and
monumental
architecture
is a fascinating example of Mussolini’s
use of
visua
l spectacle to promote fascist
ideology.
Your task is to
read the article by Marla Stone, entitled “Staging Fascism: The
Exhibition of the Fascist Revolution” in the
Journal of Contemporary History
(1993) and to use that
–
as well as any images you can locate on the web of art
and architecture from this exhibit
and the artists included in it
–
to create a wiki
post on the social function of fascist aesthetics.
Question: How did the Italian fascists use art and architecture to promote their
cause?
To think about: What sort of work was included in the exhibition?
Who were the
artists? What social function did the work included in the 1932 Fascist Exhibition

fulfill? Do we see comparable agendas and results today? If so, where?

Your entry should be 2
page
s
in length (Arial 12
-
point font, single
-
spaced),
and
include
a
t least two examples of fascist art/architecture and at least three direct
quotes from the Stone article.
