Paper #2 – In this paper, examine one particular personal/professional woman’s leadership experience in business that addresses the themes discussed in the course. Start by selecting a female leader in the field of business. Gather information about her in books, internet, media outlets. Explain why you selected this woman as a leader and analyze how gender has helped or hindered her path to leadership.

 

PAPER LENGTH: 8-10 pages

 

Please use ASA guidelines for references and citations and be sure to save an electronic copy of your paper. Note: you can use any citation formats besides ASA but stay consistent!

 

Be sure to refer to at least four of our class readings to date (in addition to your own search).

 

 GRADING RUBRIC (TOTAL OF 20 POINTS):

 

Clear argument addressing paper topic (4 points): Your paper should refer to the paper topic you selected and provide a clear argument that addresses at least half of the accompanying questions.  Please use specific examples to support your argument.

 

Accurate use of terms/concepts from the class discussions (3 points): Your paper should incorporate at least three concepts from the course readings and/or class discussions thus far.  These should be an integral part of your essay—that is, you should apply them in the context of your analysis. Please bold the term/concept in your paper.

 

Analysis based on the ideas/perspectives in four class readings (4 points).  Your paper should include references to perspectives from at least four class readings thus far. You may draw from more of these perspectives, but your analysis should clearly state the relationships between your arguments and the authors’ perspectives.

 

Coherent analysis/argument (5 points):  Your arguments and analysis should be clear and coherent, describe your own perspectives and engage in major issues and debates we have discussed in class and in the readings.

 

Mechanics, including references cited (4 points): Mechanics refers to grammar, spelling, and punctuation, which should be accurate (do not depend on a word-processing program to find your errors).  If you have questions about the mechanics of writing, the writing center can always be helpful.  Do also list as references any of the readings that you cite.
