Project #46827 - PROJECT #2

Project Overview

Research on diseases is occurring continuously, and while textbooks attempt to stay current it is difficult for all current research to be included. For this reason, it is important for health care professionals to be able to find current research information and to understand that information on any given disease.

For this project, you will find research articles about a disease of your choice. Based upon your reading and study of this research, you will prepare an annotated bibliography. According to APA style (which we follow), the "purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited." For more information on preparing an Annotated Bibliography and APA, navigate to the Resources tab in this course.

Requirements

  1. Choose a disease that you would like to know more about. Be specific about the disease you are choosing. For example, if you choose 'Diabetes' you will find plenty of articles but some will be on Type I, some on Type II, and other types of diabetes and each is a slightly different disorder.
  2. Research the disease. In your research, study at least six research articles. Sample sources are the library database; medical journals; and government websites such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
  3. Prepare 6 references for your annotated bibliography. A maximum of 2 sources should come from an online source. The library databases are not considered an online source.
  4. Beneath each reference, write an annotation. For more information on preparing an Annotated Bibliography and APA, navigate to the Resources tab in this course.
  5. Be sure to use correct grammar and spelling.

FIRST PART

Choose your disease and write a paragraph (a paragraph is a minimum of 4-5 sentences) explaining your reasons for choosing this particular disease. Remember, you must choose a specific disease, so if a disease occurs in more than one form, choose only one. For example, do not just choose 'diabetes'; choose a specific type of diabetes like Type II Diabetes Mellitus.
